Athletic Director Goes Above and Beyond

missing-First NameMIHALYSTA

The life of an Athletic Director is consumed by scheduling, scheduling, and more scheduling. Now add creating a new website for a league featuring over 100 basketball teams, as well as a full-time teaching load, and you can imagine that managing time, acting efficiently, and engaging in real interactions with colleagues, parents, and students is somewhat impossible.

Andrew Mihaly is able to do it all, and do it all very well.

His efforts were recently recognized by the Merrimack Basketball League. Mr. Mihaly was named 'Volunteer of the Year' by the community of directors, coaches, and paren...

Mount Royal Academy Announces Catholic Schools' Week Awards

Mount Royal Academy is pleased to announce the winners of its Catholic Schools’ Week mission competitions. During the week of February 1-5, students participated in academic and collaborative activities focused on the Jubilee Year of Mercy, instituted by Pope Francis.

Students from every grade (K-12th) participated in a door decorating contest, just as Pope Francis inaugurated the Year of Mercy by entering through the Holy Door. Each class creatively expressed their understanding of God’s mercy on their classroom doors. Headmaster Derek Tremblay judged each door and announced winners for each ...

"Which Door to Open? What Keys are Needed?" - College Planning Seminar

Navigating the college admissions process can be a stressful and pressurized experience for both students and parents.

We firmly believe in keeping doors open, but there is certainly one door that is a better fit for each individual child. The role of parents in the decision is also a critical factor, even though there are identifiable influences suggesting otherwise.

The goal of the seminar is to introduce high school students and parents to the college admissions process, but also to reflect on what it takes to discern which is the right door to open.

The featured speaker will be myself. I h...

Headmaster's Lenten Message

Dear Families,

In the seemingly blink of an eye, the season of Lent has arrived. It never fails that inasmuch as Lent is a season of preparation, it is a struggle to even prepare for Lent. This shouldn't be a cause for disappointment or self-criticism, but we shouldn't be afraid to look deep into ourselves either, for it is there that we find the source of renewal: "truth is the bread of the soul" (Bishop Jacques-Benigne Bossuet). The heart is undeniably hungry for mercy.

"February 10, 2016, might just be the beginning of a new chapter in our life, or that new chapter might be in the life of s...

Whether Surrogate Motherhood is Good

One of the greatest theological minds humanity has ever seen is that of Saint Thomas Aquinas. He is the author of many profound works, but he is most famous for the Summa theologiae. This immense and innovative opus became one of the main foundations for Catholic moral teaching. In his Summa, Aquinas presents his read...

Catholic Schools' Week: Year of Mercy

Dear Families,

In Pope Francis' message for Lent, he fittingly gravitates towards the Jubilee Year of Mercy as a source of inspiration. Jesus uttered the simplest justification for mercy during his public ministry: "I desire mercy, and not sacrifice” (Mt 9:13). The Pope explains that, "the mercy of God is a proclamation made to the world, a proclamation which each Christian is called to experience at first hand."

This fixation on mercy is not without connection to Catholic education. An authentic and dynamic Catholic education instructs and forms children to know the truth, and subsequently pr...

Looking to the Saints for Lessons in Perseverance

Dear Families,

There is an unmistakable rhythm to the academic calendar. I think we would all agree that the drudgery of winter is a trying time, both in school and in the home. I admit to being victimized by the aforementioned stagnant spirit.

Reaching the halfway point, and successfully transitioning into the second half of the year presents an occasion for joyful reflection on all of the achievements and graces received in this academic year.

I think now is an especially great opportunity to look towards saints who have both spoken about and modeled perseverance and courage in the face of e...
