Knights Split Versus Holy Family

As was previously announced, the Knights hosted two soccer matches against Holy Family Academy on Saturday, September 24th.

Both games were action-packed. The JV game was filled with a couple of dramatic lead changes, while the Varsity match-up exhausted players and spectators,  as both teams very admirably challenged each another for the whole 80 minutes.

The final score of the JV match was 6-5 in favor of Holy Family. It was a game full of many 'firsts' in Mount Royal history: our first EVER JV game; the first time our younger players were left to compete without the direction and leadership of their high school comrades; and the first (and quickest) hat-trick in the short history of our JV program. Coaches and parents ought to be extremely proud of the resiliency and effort displayed by our middle school student-athletes.

For the first time in 3 seasons, the Varsity Knights squad overcame the athleticism and relentlessness of the Griffins, by a score of 3-1. This game had everything: penalty kicks, devastating defensive plays, and outstanding offensive demonstrations on both sides of the pitch. And yet, like any well fought soccer match, the word which best describes the competition level would have to be 'grind'. It was a grinding victory for the Knights, who now stand 2-0 in league play.

Next up for the Knights is a match on Wednesday, September 28th, against another talented and challenging school, Jesse Remington. Kick-off is at 3:30pm. Please come and support our student-athletes.

Our Lady of Victory, pray for us!
